Wired reports that the adult-only .xxx domain proposal is now being backed by some in the “adult entertainment” industry who have helped prevent it's passage thus far. I've thought this is the most logical thing to do for years, hopefully it will eventually be adopted.
[Update] After thinking about this for a while, I don't think the proposal goes far enough because it doesn't require today's adult .com owners to transfer to .xxx domains. I think the bill should give .com/.net/.etc owners a free .xxx domain (first-come first-serve based on the date they bought their current domain) and their current site should send a response.redirect and/or be a blank page with a link to the new .xxx domain in order to allow browsers to be set to reject any links to/from that domain. Having a .xxx domain does little good if I setting my browser to avoid them only avoids the newest, latest sites but none of today's limitless purveyors of online obscenity.
