Microsoft Search Still Far, Far Behind Google

Remember ASP? VBScript? Visual Interdev? I do. All too well. I still work with “ASP.Classic“ quite a bit. No new development but plenty (too much) ongoing development and maintenance.

Last night, I was stopped in my tracks using Interdev by an error with little info other than “80070005”. Error numbers are cool, though, right? Double-click error number, ctrl+C, ctrl+V into search box, enter, BAM! Yet another reminder of how bad the Microsoft search function is.

Results from the MS Knowledge Base : 1. Unfortunately, it doesn't actually have that search term on the page nor have anything to do with the problem. Results from Google: 26. 40 if you include the omitted “similar entried”.

I don't really care if MS overtakes Google or “fixes” their search. This is supposedly their new improved search and it is still far from great. The fact that they brag about this is amazing. Why not just do everyone a favor and put a Google search box on their site? It would save MS, me, and you a lot of time and money.

I can't remember what it was now... I should have written that down, too.
