The new Beta of Yahoo Messenger is great. It finally looks good (it hurt my eyes before) and has some nice new features, but the new Launch.com tab is the deal. Read More...

As a current subscriber, I can assure you that the $99 would be well spent but Mike has decided to spread the word by giving free memberships to .NET bloggers. The subscription includes monthly free components and deals that are going to be hard to pass Read More...

This Wired article says that there are large drops in certain shows now that Nielsen is using their "new" technology instead of simply having their "Nielsen Families" write down their viewing habits. I had no idea that they still used the pen & paper Read More...

Due to a pretty terrible turn of events today, I was locked out of my house for about 9 hours and ended up running 75 feet of coaxial cable under a friend's house and into 2 rooms before finally getting a locksmith to meet me here and let me back in. Read More...

Regardless of how Mark Cuban made the loot he used to buy the team, I don't consider his blog to be a "tech" blog. Nor am I a pro ball fan.
I do consider his blog to my favorite non-tech read. Smart, funny, informative, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah... check it out.
I think this post concerning the dirty truth about Wall Street is something that you should force everyone you know to read.

Charlotte's Chamber of Commerce has an annual event honoring local companies for their achievements in Information Technology. The Blue Diamond Awards are divided into large (“Corporate Level“) and smaller (“Traditional“) businesses and several categories. The awards are held in February but this year were postponed to until last Tuesday night due to snow.
This year's Blue Diamond for “Best Use of Information Technology for Customer Service” went to Preferred Parking Service, Inc for their Read More...

James Crowley has posted an early version of a VB.NET to C# converter. I am a strong believer in the idea that you should be able to read and use both languages. I started with VB.NET in the Betas and moved to C# about a year ago. This helps me be able to read and understand sample code and shared source code that is in VB.NET but the fact of the matter is that I am still progressing in C# and there are things that I simply haven't seen nor done in VB.NET that I have in C#. And, of course, t Read More...

I don't work hard enough physically to sweat, but if my brain could sweat it would have lost a few pounds over the last month. I haven't worked this much in quite a while, I had forgotten how good it felt to work under impossible deadlines on fun, challenging Read More...

This Lindows guy amazes me, pretending to be surprised at how Microsoft is “attacking” his poor little innocent company. If you actually believed him, you would think that Microsoft is suing Lindows because they are a desktop OS company, as if “Lindows” was not a direct, intentional, calculated blow aimed at Microsoft. Who in their right mind can name a product (and company?) after the 800-gorilla and then act surprised when the gorilla takes a swing at them? Linux was named to intentionall Read More...

Day 2 of installation on my web server: SQL Server 2000.
Installing the server itself is a breeze, not that it was ever hard, but after doing it repeatedly the last 4 years, it's gotten to the point where I don't even read the dialogs anymore. And then I tried to install SQL Server Reporting Services.

Please get off Microsoft's bandwidth. Go have a beer or something.
I am trying to download SQL Server 2000 SP3a and it's coming down at a blazing 4.88KB/sec. I would really like to leave here by 5, but it is 2:30 EST now and I have about 3 and a half hours to go on this download...

Finally... there is nothing worse than having to listen to weeks of hype about something that is not only off limits to you but also such a secret that you don't even get to know what is being hyped.
Well, as we all pretty much guessed, Channel 9 is an MS web site with videos, interviews, etc. Good stuff so far, and it's purty. The exceptional use of orange almost makes up for the utter lack of blue (sorry, default-colored hyperlinks don't count toward your blue quota).
One early post h Read More...
