Bank Of America Shows Why I Am Not Their Customer

BofA had over a million(!!!) credit card numbers lost to thieves. Not internet thieves but those retro real-world theives. This happened in December, apparently, and BofA is doing as little as possible to make things better, according to some people who got burned by this, like Mike Sax.

Why didn't Bank of America notify me immediately? I only found out when several merchants informed me charges had been declined. When I called Bank of America they told me that they were eventually going to reissue a new card for me, and only after expressing my dismay did they offer to send a new card "within 2-3 days". [via Mike Sax]

I used to be a BofA customer. But then one day, several towns from home, my ATM card (we'll call it Card A) stopped working. I called customer service and was told that the Card A had been cancelled (no reason was given) and that a new one (Card B) had been mailed. I hadn't recieved it so I was out of luck. "Do you have a checkbook with you?" I don't know of any guy who carries a checkbook around with them, but that was the best help she could give me. The advice went straight downhill from there, ending with "do you have any family in the area you can call that can come give you gas money?". Luckily, I made it home on gas fumes (all the while fuming myself) and waited for second new card (Card C) to be issued and mailed.

3 weeks later, there was still no Card C so I called again. I was told that, as planned, Card B had been cancelled and Card C had been sent to me over 2 weeks earlier. It never made it to me and surely would have by then so the customer service tech said he would cancel Card C and issue Card D and it should make it to me within 2 weeks.

3 weeks later, still no Card D. When I called to ask/complain why I was still without a card after 6 weeks, the customer service tech said there was a record of my last phone call but that the person who spoke to me did not cancel Card C nor issue Card D as promised. "But I can do that now for you, if you want," she said.

"No, that's okay, I'll have a new bank by time you finally send me a new card."

And I was.

I have had similar ludicrous encounters with Bank of America that caused me to close me account. In June of 2004 Bank of America charged an over-draft fee when there were adequate funds in the account. At the time I thought, mistakes happen I’m sure we can clear this up. Well it has been over 1 year, and it is not cleared up yet. We are contemplating taking legal actions. The bank has passed us to so many different departments each telling us to do something different. Several of the departments can not access our account information and need us to fax them our statements… Is that not crazy! Bank of America has some serious customer care problems, customers beware!

I had a terrible situation where a Internet provider was billing my card set up in someone elses name that was a nightmare. Well i cancelled my bank of Amer. card and low and behold the billing began on my new card. To my surprise Bank of Amer. provided my new card info to the Internet provider without any authorization. They said it's like forwarding my mail. I said if I didn't give them my new card number it was because they weren't suppose to have it, IDIOTS!

Bank of America quite frankly SUCKS! For the last four months BofA has been steeling from me. How, by not providing my original checks back after they have been processed. I PAY A MONTHLY FEE TO GET MY CHECKS BACK! This latest incident BofA tried to charge me for "copies" of the check they faild to return. Now comes more BS from BofA: I did not request copies - I requested "check substitues" because they are now the only legal document that replaces the original processed check. However, BofA REFUSES TO SEND THE LEGAL DOCUMENTS, which I pay for each month. Reguarding this past month screw job: After call customer service back the next day, ordering what I thought was check substitutes, to protest and have removed the $6 fee fradulantly charged to my account, clerk was nasty and refused to reverse the fraud. So I demanded her supervisor who also was a jerk and attempted to refuse to reverse thel fraud. After much shouting at him about BoA's fraud that he was continuing he finaly said he would reverse the charge. I found out the next day he actually did reverse it. However, BoA's fraud continued in that they still refused to sent the legal documents - check substitues - that I am paying for. You may think I am a bit POed! Oh yeah. I am actively in the process of changing banks. There is a good chance that BofA will be in a class action suit. Think of how many millions of dollars they scammed from customers!
