RSS Bandit v1.3.0.26 Delivers

RSS Bandit v1.3.0.26 is out and, for the first time, it has earned a permanent place on my PC.

I've had problems with ever release of RSS Bandit so far. The first few wouldn't run at all and the last few just lacked the features I've become reliant on. The new version delivers all I wanted, all I needed, and more. I dig the tabbed browsing, the speed, the GUI, pretty much every single point gets a (+) from me. I haven't been running it very long, but I've been running it long enough to know I like it. A lot. I am sure there are problems and I'm sure I'll run into them, but so far, I haven't.

Congrats and thank you, Dare.

can't remember if you took Omea for a spin or not...if you did, how does this compare? I love my Omea, but the footprint is really starting to annoy me (sitting at almost 100 megs right now).

Omea has been my default reader since you pointed it out to me but no longer. RSS Bandit does 95% of what I did with Omea Reader, does a better job of about 50% that, and it does an extra 20%. The tabbed browsing is brilliant, it still seems strange to not want to open posts in Firefox all the time but I rarely do because the browsing works so well in RSS Bandit now.

Omea Reader did a LOT more than just RSS, but I did not use any of those features.

I can't comment regarding the footprint because Omea Reader has about 100x more data in it.

Is RSS Bandit perfect? Nope. But as a RSS Reader, it is closer than I expected one to be. It really does work better than I thought was possible from my experiences with other products.

Wow...quite impressed actually, namely w/ how 'snappy' it is, very responsive GUI, quick to dl new posts (Omea can get a little sluggish). The footprint is much smaller as well. Tabs are a HUGE plus, though I'm sure it uses the IE activeX control internally. I did notice that the internal browser doesn't support javascript (in the form of popping up new windows), but the browser in Omea doesn't either. The biggest minus is that the forward/back buttons on my mouse don't work (works in Omea). I'll give it a few more days and type up a formal review shortly.

Javascript is turned off by default but is easily turned on by a checkbox in the options, along with about a half-dozen other features Omea didn't let you configure (as far as I know).

The non-functioning back button on the mouse and the occassionally-functioning scroll wheel in the tabbed browsing are a bit annoying. I never noticed the back on the mouse worked in Omea because I hated browsing in Omea and avoided it at all costs.

sweet...somehow I missed that tab. I also didn't initially see that you can post comments directly from RSSBandit (that feature alone is almost worth switching over, though Omea will have that very soon as well). It's also just a whole lot simpler than Omea. Anywho, thx for the info.
