I Finally Have A New Phone

This is probably the only place I'll ever call it a Scoblephone because in "the real world", nobody would know what I'm talking about. For them, it is the Audiovox SMT 5600. I resisted the phone for months because it isn't a flip phone and that is usually a showstopper for me. I'm definitely not happy about that but there just isn't a good MS Mobile flip phone. I waited months for the Motorola MPx 220 and that phone turned out to be the worst phone I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Even after 2 or 3 recalls, the phone is still a piece of junk. But even if it did work, it still falls behind the 5600 in pretty much every category (including screensize) except for the fact that the Motorola is a flip.

So far, the phone is great. I'm looking forward to finally getting to build some toys in VS.NET and play with them on the phone instead of being stuck in that emulator.

If you're in the market for a new phone, Cingular has the 5600 for $250 with 2-year contract (online only, I haven't found any stores that have these yet). If you don't want/need a smartphone, they have the silver Motorola RAZR for $199.

Yeah, but now there is a black version which is much cooler, so they dropped the price on the silver one.

I have been for about 4 months trying to accept the idea that the MPX 220 was a good cell phone but, after every single call, that was proving me that I was wrong. The cell phone just doesn't work and for the worst, I got stuck with the Phone Company that I am dealing with. I have the a contract that if I cancel the service before 6 months, I will have to pay a penalty. The phone company does not want to give me other option for a cell phone replacement, the only one that they can offer is the Audiovox SMT 5600. I think that I am having a nightmare.

Nightmare? If they're replacing the MPX220 with an Audiovox SMT 5600, you're getting the best deal possible. Besides the fact that the MPX220 doesn't work, even if it did, it would still be inferior to the 5600 in almost every way. If you want a Microsoft Mobile-based smartphone, you want the SMT 5600. Period.

When MS Mobile 5.0 is released (Fall? Winter?), this will change, of course. Hopefully someone will have a ROM update for the 5600.
