Mobile-only Web: Day 14

1. My most-used program by far is the task manager. Clicking home, action (because taskman is the last program launched, it is always selected) then choosing a running program is my Smartphone version of alt+tab. Also, the horrible memory management in windows mobile 2003 means I have to manually kill programs in order to open the camera or other memory-intensive apps.

2. this Smartphone is crippled without a pc. I can not sync at work and do not have internet at home, so I can not download and install any new programs. this is a rather large problem that a Nokia 60 Series does not have. IE will not let me download a .cab and pocket outlook blocks .cab attachments. correction: IE will let me download a cab but most downloads are offered only as .exe or .zip files. On top of that, many sites that do offer .cab downloads have not configured thier servers to serve .cab files with the correct MIME type so IE tries to display it as text. This is probably a good thing, I might not want to install any software from someone that didn't bother setting up tiger server correctly or, even worse, doesn't know how.

3. Toshiba's website is pretty nice on my mobile, I was even able to configure a laptop. I don't know that the actual purchase process would have worked; I didn't try. This was still impressive. I am constantly surprised at the number of mobile-centric sites that choke when viewed on my mobile. For the record, I include this site in that list. when I am on the net again via my desktop, I plan to do something about this.
