  • Blade Runner is the Best Sci-Fi Film Ever

I've been saying this for 20 years. Now I have a panel of 60 scientists backing me up.

  • Road Trip

I'm leaving tomorrow to visit a friend in New Jersey to discuss his new company (and drink), it's been waaaay too long since I've been on a road trip.  No cellphone, no email, this is going to be very Lewis and Clark-ish.  heh. I think my official reason for going will be “I wanted to see 'Garden State' in NJ”.  I was ...

  • Moved

I moved almost a month ago.  Still not completely settled in, but getting there.  It is the shortest move I've ever been involved in; I moved less than 100 yards away.  Same zipcode, same street, even, barely a block away.  The new view is much better, though.

  • Blogiversary?

This blog is a year old today.  w00t. My first domain is 4 years old this month, unfortunately, it is currently down for repairs (and is my personal site so is not linked to this site).  My very first site is a little over 5 years old, but it's nothing worth being proud of. Geez, I feel old now.

  • [OT] Independence Day and My Family History

My family has been here (Charlotte area, North Carolina) for a long time. Every July 4th, we gather at an aunt and uncle's house for a picnic with a large extended family. Though the family is my mom's side of the family, the house is only a few miles from where my dad's dad's dad's dad's [etc] first settled in the mid-late 1700's on a land ...

  • Thanks for the GMail, David

David Vidmar was kind enough to give me a GMail invite. It is too soon to tell if it will replace any of my 'real' email addresses but it is the best web email interface I've seen. There is a DHTML spell check function that is similar to the way Smart Tags work in MS Office. The threaded conversations are cool. The interface is sparce and ...

  • Nielsen Family Values

This Wired article says that there are large drops in certain shows now that Nielsen is using their ''new'' technology instead of simply having their ''Nielsen Families'' write down their viewing habits. I had no idea that they still used the pen & paper method at all. In 1996 and 1997, I was part of a ''Nielsen Family''. I was 24, as ...

  • Spalding Gray 1941-2004

I first stumbled into Spalding Gray around 1991 or so, randomly flipping through the channels late at night. A&E was somewhere near the middle of his best known work, Swimming to Cambodia, and within seconds of seeing his face framed by shadows tossing words at me like machine gun, I grabbed a semi-blank VHS tape and began taping the film even ...

  • [OT] Snow Cancels Bush Visit To CLT

Not that it really matters to me, I don't have the $2000 required for entrance to the planned fundraising dinner tonight, but Bush was sceered to fly into Charlotte today, for good reason. It's snowed more today than it has all Winter and it isn't going to stop for another 6-12 hours. The only thing worse than getting stuck somewhere is getting ...
